THE METHANE MOLECULE

The molecule shown in the picture is a Methane molecule. Methane is a heteronuclear molecule and contains one carbon atom in the center and four hydrogen atoms around it arranged in the shape of a tetrahedron. The chemical formula for methane is CH4. Global warming is a growing concern around the world causing climate change. Methane is a natural greenhouse gas and has a higher Global Warming Potential than CO2. It is released when coal, oil, and natural gases are extracted from the Earth. Farm animals and landfill waste also produce methane. Methane can be used as a fuel for household needs, vehicles, gas turbines, steam generators, etc. Using methane from animal waste will reduce consumption of coal and other fossil fuels. This will help in slowing down global warming.
