For my molecule that I built, I picked Tryptophan, and amino acid. Tryptophan is used to make serotonin, which is a neurotransmitter. Turkeys contain large amounts of tryptophan, which can cause sleepiness. This is why you feel a little sleepy after thanksgiving. L-Tryptophan in large doses is linked to a disease called eosinophilia-myalgia syndrome or EMS. The FDA recalled Tryptophan supplements in 1989, after ten thousand people became ill. EMS causes inflammation in the muscles, lungs, and skin. The supplement can also cause some undesirable but not deadly side effects like: heartburn, stomach pain, belching, vomiting/diarrhea, and loss of appetite. Tryptophan does have a few health benefits too, including: better sleep and anxiety/depression relief.
