My Molecule is human DNA. Its Composition is made of chemical building blocks called nucleotides. The three building blocks are: a phosphate group, a sugar group & 1 of 4 types of nitrogen bases. To form a strand of DNA, nucleotides are linked into chains with the phosphate groups and sugar groups alternatingly. The properties are Deoxyribose: A pentagon shaped sugar that is found in the backbone of DNA. Phosphate group: A chemical compound that makes up part of the backbone of DNA. It is a phosphorus atom surrounded by four oxygen atoms. Base: The part of DNA that forms the rungs of the double helix ladder. Nucleotide: Is the basic building block of DNA. It is made of a sugar, a phosphate group and base. The relevance to our world is that it is important for the genetic instruction of life. Damage or mutation can lead to disease.
