Octane is a hydrocarbon, which means it’s only made up of Carbons and Hydrogens. Octane is made up of 8 carbons, and 18 hydrogen atoms. Octane is a medium sized hydrocarbon, which means it's mostly used for fuel such as gasoline. Small hydrocarbons are used to make petroleum, and large hydrocarbons are used for kerosene. Octane is the best fuel for racing cars that we know of. At gas stations the higher the number is on the button the higher the percentage of Octane there is, the more octane there is inside of the gasoline the more premium it becomes. Octane is non-polar, since it has no charge.
