Nitric acid is a mineral acid. Another name for nitric acid is aqua fortis. This mineral acid is highly corrosive, meaning it damages other substances it comes in contact with. Also, it can be colorless yellow or a red liquid. Furthermore, this acid is important because it is used to make fertilizers, plastics, dyes, explosives, etc. the odor nitric acid gives off is acrid and some might even say it’s smell is suffocating. The boiling point of nitric acid is 181.4°F(83°C). While in contrast the freezing and melting point is -43.6°F(-42°C). The density of nitric acid is 1.51g/cm³. This acid is completely miscible. Nitric acid is most definitely useful but it is also dangerous. It can cause severe chemical burns, permanent cornea damage, mucous membranes, body tissue destruction, liquid in the sacks of lungs, or death.
