Stearic acid, also known as Octadecanoic acid, is a saturated fatty acid. Stearic acid is made up of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen atoms. It’s characteristic properties are that it is shiny white flakes or powder, very soluble in water, it has a melting point of 69-70 degrees celsius and a boiling point of 383 degrees celsius. It has an odor that resembles fats and oils. Stearic acid is found naturally in the protective outer layer of the skin. It is one of the main building blocks of the lipid layers in the skin, which helped form a barrier and preserve the skin’s natural moisture. Stearic acid is found in various animal and plant fats and is a major component of cocoa butter and shea butter. This component promotes healthy and strong skin. All in all, Stearic acid’s composition is essential for the certain strength in the skin of the body.
