When I heard the Mars rover needed a name, I dove right into research on space history for insight. I hope to contribute to space history someday, and perhaps this challenge could be my way. While at my public library, I found some local paintings on display, and a certain painting attracted me eye. It reminded me of what I've read about the Mars landscape, with its eccentric, vermillion colors. Strange enough, I recognized an ape’s skull within the painting. The painting, the ape, and Mars haunted my thoughts. I was desperate for a name, so I researched the term "ape," to see what I could find. That's when I found “apeiron." Apeiron is Greek for boundless or for all eternity. It's an ideal name for the rover because Mars exploration should be boundless, and the Apeiron Rover will leave a legacy for Mars and space history for all eternity.
