The name for the new Mars rover should be Amica, which is the Latin word for friend. Mars is named after the Roman god of war, so it seemed fitting to make the name of the rover a Latin word (the language the spoke in ancient Rome). Amica is a good name because Mars is exactly that to earth: a friend, and the new rover can make that friendship closer as we learn more about the planet. Mars has the same day length as earth (about 24 hrs), four seasons just like Earth, and may even be able to support life. If life on Earth fails, it would be good to know that we have a friend to turn to in a planet that is so similar to our own. The research the rover would do could save humanity, proving that it is a friend to us as well.
