“Inspiration” is a great representation of the Mars 2020 rover’s technology and purpose. This rover will drill, analyze, and identify if a rock sample could have contained life a long time ago. Inspiration means “the power of moving intellect or emotions”. I learned about this rover’s mission when reading about Abigail Allwood. She helped build part of this rover at JPL. I admire her work in petrology and finding stromatolites. Inspiration has the Latin root word spirare, which means, “to breathe”. One of the jobs of the Mars 2020 rover is to test methods on creating oxygen from the Martian atmosphere. It will look for signs of life, water, and help figure out how people can eventually travel to Mars. There are thousands of people working to help gain universal knowledge about our place in the cosmos and I would love to be a part of that mission.
