The GRIT (Geologic Retrieval Investigation and Testing) rover is like many others, but new in many ways as well. With the two intense goals of searching for past microbial life, and discovering fundamental knowledge needed for the first colonists, the rover needs to be a tough one. Hard work is what it's going to take, grit is needed for this daunting task. The name itself serves a purpose, to remind everyone on Earth what is needed to establish ourselves in our solar system and in our galaxy. It is a reminder that the task of colonizing Mars is no easy task, but no task is impossible. Geologic Retrieval, for the collection of soil samples one day to be brought back to Earth. Investigation and Testing, examing the surrounding environemt for its weather conditions, and testing oxygen production methods.
