Aspiration

The word "aspiration" is defined as a hope or ambition of achieving something. The Mars 2020 rover has four specific goals over the course of its future exploration: to determine whether or not life ever arose on Mars, to characterize the climate of Mars, to characterize the geology of Mars, and to prepare for human exploration. All of these goals are involved with the possibility of life on the planet and they will all help in future explorers' survival on Mars. Hope seemed too basic of a word for such amazing technology. Therefore, the entire point of the 2020 rover is the aspiration that humans will successfully live on Mars, which would be a huge achievement for mankind.
