La Energía de Mi Vida

Radioisotope powered systems (RPS) are used for long term-space missions for the fact that it is one of the best options for power. RPS uses plutonium-238; as the plutonium decays, it creates heat, which through thermocouples is converted into electricity. NASA has five active missions using RPS, Perseverance and Curiosity rovers, Voyager probes, and New Horizons. NASA uses RPS because it's a compact, reliable, and powerful source of energy for missions that go through the vastness of space and the harsh environment like Mars. My unique power is my mentality. Just like a RPS, I will keep going to achieve and finish my “mission”, which is becoming a NASA astronaut. My mentality to have an open mind to learn, explore, and discover the possibilities that the universe withholds. To persevere and be resilient in times of stress and struggle, and to not be afraid to take risks. To be determined in what I want to accomplish, and succeed now in school and in the future. To be curious, ask questions that keep me pursuing my goal. As Carl Sagan said, “Somewhere something incredible is waiting to be known.”, but in the words of Gene Kranz, “Failure is not an option”.
