Remember the very first time we all saw pictures of Pluto? I was surprised and amazed. Pluto has volcanoes, avalanches, the biggest glacier in the entire solar system, and even a possible subsurface ocean! While the New Horizons flyby gave us a spectacular glimpse of these wonders, most of Pluto is actually still waiting for us to discover. So, let’s use our “power to explore” to send an orbiter to Pluto -- and marvel at what else it has for us to find! The goals of the RPS-powered orbiter will be to fully map the terrain and study Pluto’s moons, core, atmosphere, seasonal changes, and even that possible subsurface ocean. The special “power” I’ll contribute to this mission is being an inclusive team leader. I’ll create a supportive environment, listening to each team member and valuing everyone’s thoughts equally. An inclusive team is more likely to succeed -- working together, we can conquer the hardest challenges. When the New Horizons flyby mission sent back pictures of Pluto, we marveled at its wonders, delightfully surprised by the huge heart shape on its surface. By exploring Pluto with an orbiter, we could be surprised again by something completely unexpected!
