The M.A.T.W.

The magic of the Multi-Action Tread Wheel is all in the treads and specific materials. Ultra-light 7XXX Al-Li alloy comprises the delicately curved shell of the wheel and the triangular "grabber" spikes on the edges of the wheel, while the four spokes are constructed of a similar alloy, 2XXX. The curved treads are made of hard plastic, while the straight portions are made of synthetic rubber to "spring" forward off the ground. The spokes are hollow (not shown) with a 0.25 cm. thickness to further decrease the weight. Finally, the center hole is threaded to allow an axle and motor to connect to it. 47 cm. in width and 41.2 cm. in diameter, the durable, light, and all-terrain M.A.T.W. is ready for anything Mars throws at it.
