This rover wheel is designed to drive across smooth, rocky, and sandy surfaces. The extruded shapes on the outside of the wheel give it enough traction to comfortably move across smoother surfaces while at the same time giving the wheel opportunities to hook the extrusions onto rocks and climb over them. When traveling over sandy surfaces where it is hard to get enough friction to move, the wheel can extend its plates that dig into the sand and allow the wheel to move. The hub is open so that motors can be stored inside to move the plates. The spokes are curved inwards to give the rover some spring if it falls from a high place onto its wheels, but not too much that they break. The wheel also has a part that curves into the center to give the rover time to recover if it starts to tip over.
