Meet Avery! Avery is a completed humanoid robot that I started the summer of my sophomore year. At first, he was just a prototype made out of craft supplies. However, this year I rebuilt him out of 3D printed and aluminum parts. Avery is primarily a social robot: he has a motion sensor in the front, can speak, gesture to audiences his 3-axis motorized arm, swivel his head, and even look around and blink. He is a great option to entertain young children and make them smile by doing things such as telling jokes or singing! Additionally, he can be used in the hospitality and service industries as a greeter, usher, or receptionist. Avery is set up to be automated, but can also be puppeteered through a servo controlling software on computers/laptops. I will be presenting my project to my peers at the end of this school year!
