The Cross

The pin depicts a cross that represents my father’s tradition. Every year his grandfather put on his full dress military uniform with his medals and took his entire family, including his children and grandchildren, to the Mount Samat Cross. When he was a boy he stood at the base of the tall cross in Bataan with his grandfather on Bataan day. My father described that as the clouds moved, the cross appeared to be falling on him. My great grandfather fought in World War II in the Philippines. Everytime I see an American flag, it reminds me of veterans and hurts me to know that some go through disorders. The rose portrays the beauty of freedom and the thorns, the pain of securing that freedom. I just hope veterans are proud of who they are, I and all of America appreciates you.
