Fig Tree

My veteran’s day pin is based off of President George Washington infamous goodbye speech, where he formally passes on his power to a new, civilian chosen president. He did this in order to protect and maintain the American concept of democracy, which veterans today continue to protect. His speech states “Everyone shall live under their own vine, and fig tree, and no one shall make them afraid”, which illustrates the ideas of free will that veterans have dedicated their lives to protect for the future.
