The pin I chose to make has many symbols embedded in the design. The first symbol is the shape of the pin- a shooting star. Shooting stars were long ago said to symbolize new opportunities, similar to how veterans took the opportunity to join the army so they could serve their country. I also made the colors of the pin symbolize things. Blue was used because it represents peace and cooperation, and so I could include all colors shown on the American flag. White was chosen because it is known to represent life and loyalty. The final thing I put on my pin is red poppies, which were used to show support and respect for veterans. They reference a part of a poem written by John McCrae titled “In Flanders Fields''. This pin isn’t huge, but it shows gratitude to the veterans who spent their time fighting for their country.
